Melee Weapons

Melee Weapons
Each loadout has one dedicated melee slot. Melee weapons exist for emergencies — when your primary runs dry, when you want to conserve ammo on zombies, or when a silent kill is worth more than a loud one. Range is short and animation recovery is slow, so they are rarely a primary playstyle.
Damage is shown per swing as Head / Chest / Limb — headshots roughly double chest damage on most melee.

Picking a Melee
- Hunting Knife — lightest option at 1 kg. Best for weight-conscious loadouts.
- Machete / Katana / Kukri — all tie for top damage at moderate weight. Machete is the lightest of the three.
- Axe — same top damage as the blades but 4 kg, so only take it if you're already hauling heavy gear.
- Bat (Nailed) — the best blunt weapon by damage-to-weight.
- Crowbar — decent damage, moderate weight; sometimes doubles as quest loot.
- Pipe / Golf Club / Bat — budget picks if you pick them up from loot. Don't buy them.
- Shovel — the heaviest melee at 5 kg for middling damage. Skip unless it's a quest item.
Tips
- Zombies take headshots normally, so aim for the head with high-damage melee to one-shot Walkers.
- Melee is silent — clearing zombies in a room with knives won't draw human patrols like gunfire does.
- Weapon reach varies by type; stabbing weapons (Hunting Knife, Kukri, Machete) feel shorter but swing faster than two-handed blunt.
- Keep a cheap melee in your Trash Can starter kit in case you lose everything on a raid.
